| Jenny Chang was an amazing student with a flair for public service. She was one of the first Park Scholars. She maintained Dean’s list status while completing more than 700 hours of community service. She was an NC State University Leadership Fellow, a 1999 Outstanding Women's Award recipient, a University Scholar and a Caldwell Fellow. She served as student body president and a member of the Board of Trustees, Student Judicial Board and Student Senate. She graduated with degrees in both biochemistry and economics. She also received the prestigious Truman Scholarship for post-graduate study. These outstanding academic accomplishments pale in comparison to the rest of her story. She moved to Washington, D.C. to work for U.S. Representative David Price after graduation. Then, Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. The young 25-year-old has endured two surgeries and several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation.
She is fighting the cancer battle and helping others in the process. Last summer, Jenny and her team of friends and colleagues called the Chang Gang raced in the Washington, D.C.’s Race for the Cure, raising more than $15,000 for Susan G. Komen Foundation--the third-highest amount of all the race teams.
Though graduate school plans are postponed for the moment, she continues her public service in the office of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney.
The Chang Gang are moving their efforts to the Triangle for the upcoming Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure set for June 12, for more information, check out www.nctrianglerace.org.
