Chancellor Fox had the Bell Tower glow red in Stein’s honor November 7. Stein is department chair of landscape architecture at NC State.
Professor Stein has been honored with the AIACC Excellence in Education Award, a certificate of recommendation for Service to the Community (City of Los Angeles), the ACSA Professional Practice Award, and the ASLA Communication Award. She is a member of the World Conservation Union, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the International Federation of Landscape Architects, the Association of Landscape Architects in Israel, the International Association for Landscape Ecology, and the Society for Ecological Restoration.
Before joining the College of Design, Stein was director and associate professor of the landscape architecture program at the University of Southern California from 1989 to 2000. She also managed her own landscape architecture practice, designing for commercial projects, schools, parks, housing, and cemeteries, as well as focusing on environmental planning and development on regional and state levels, zoning by-laws, and land acquisition and funding. Professor Stein has numerous publications and writings to her credit. Research topics have included sustainable cities and preservation in China, the Urhu garden and wildlife habitat in Wyoming.
She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard University, Graduate College of Design and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, University of California, Berkeley. |
